Professor Joel Hecker

Joel Hecker is Professor Emeritus of Jewish Mysticism at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College where he started teaching full-time in 1995. Hecker received semikhah at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (Yeshiva University) in 1990 and his PhD in Jewish Mysticism from New York University in 1996. He is the author of The Zohar: Pritzker Edition Vol. 11; The Zohar: Pritzker Edition Vol. 12 (with Nathan Wolski) Mystical Bodies, Mystical Meals: Eating and Embodiment in Medieval Kabbalah; and co-editor of Emotions in Jewish Mysticism (in press). He is currently working on the first annotated English translation of the Ra’aya Meheimna (the last section of Zoharic literature to be translated).
