Yaela Wiser

Yaela Wiser is an eighth-grader and a newly minted Jewish adult living with her parents outside of Boston. She’s a poet, game designer, artist and nature lover. She plays piano and clarinet, and volunteers in the classrooms of her former Hebrew school. Yaela, a seventh-year Girl Scout, is deeply committed to social justice. She loves to read and holds a particular interest in fantasy literature. Yaela is also the fifth and youngest grandchild of Rabbis Phyllis Berman and Arthur Waskow. While preparing for her bat mitzvah, and specifically, for her d’var Torah, she picked the part of her Torah portion that she found the most egregious and stated: “That’s what I want to talk about.” She prepared this d’var Torah in collaboration with Rabbi Jessica Dell’Era.
